Too Tough To Die
Lets Talk About The Stones, shall we?
Jason Mulgrew, a wonderfull blogger once said “get a stones album, and listen only to the songs you have never heard of, and your mind will be blown” or something similar to that. And he’s dead on. I spent the last 3 days listening to “Its Only Rock And Roll” on vinyl, and ohmigosh, its wonderful. You know the title track, but there is not a single moment of downtime on that entire record. I dont know how they do it. There are songs like “Luxury” which kicks off side 2, a reggae tune about a jamaican who works in an oil refinery, making money for Texans, while he fights to keep his wife in luxury. How do 2 british guys write songs about this? Who the hell knows, who the hell cares, they do it well.
Then the little blues ditty, “Short And Curlies, which is in fact my new favorite stones song ever. Lets examine a chorus, shall we?
It’s too bad, she’s got you by the balls
You can’t break loose at all
She’s got your name
She’s got your number
You’re screamin’ like thunder
And you’re trapped like a rat in a hole
Genius. These guys……these are the guys. If you buy that song on itunes right now, i’ll reimburse you for it, just because everyone needs to hear it.
But then, from there, they knock you out, with the ballad “till the next goodbye” and you forget about the chick having the dude by the balls, and are transported into a sentimental world with Mick singing in some weird southern accent about a tearful goodbye in New York. The Stones, man, The Stones.
I have to go to a mercedez dealership tomorrow morning to record one of those commercials with a dealership president dealy thingys, and i now more than ever want to wear my “Too Tough To Die” Keith Richards T Shirt. If only I were that badass.
